I Wish I Was As Thin As My Patience

Updated: Feb 25, 2020

We live in a very fast pace world, from fast food to high speed internet, we tend to forget some things just don't happen in seconds or even months. As a trainer and rider, one of the most important thing in my training book is PATIENCE. Take a step back and slow down. Our horses don't live in the fast pace world that we do. Sometimes I feel I'm better with horses than I am with people. I can be ultra-patient with a horse and less patient with a person.

Patience allows you to make steady progress. Some wins may seem small to others but huge to a trainer and horse! For example, you may see a rider at a barrel race with a young colt. He is jumpy and obviously anxious. All the rider is worried about is having a clean not spoked run. They want the horse to understand their job and do it correctly. Others may have seen this rider just trot the pattern. Was that even a run? What may seem small is progress. You have to start somewhere! Big things take patience and time!

Anything worth doing is worth "taking the time." It wont ever happen overnight, take the time, small steps are still steps to going farther!
